Blossoms Bilingual Preschool’s Philosophy
The belief and structure at Blossoms Bilingual Preschool is that every child will blossom as an individual. We believe that parents are the first teachers of their children. Working together parents and teachers can help children reach their own potential. We believe that every child is unique in his or her own way.
Blossoms’ teaching philosophy relates a lot to the multiple intelligence theory. The Multiple Intelligence Theory suggests that every child has strengths and potential areas for growth, the mentor who supports the child’s strengths and utilizes them will encourage the success of the child. “please view the attached hand out”. As a program our goal is to find in each one of our students an area which they learn best in, use their strengths to their advantage, and continue to build on their essential skills —allowing them to strive for success. We deeply believe that every child has the possibility to succeed. However, a child who is not given a fair chance and is not encouraged or given the proper tools will struggle in life.
One of our favorite things to do in class is reading social stories. We learn so much from the children as we asked questions and connect with them through the story. Asking questions and allowing time for children to respond with their own ideas on how to solve problems, is a very powerful activity. This encourages children to participate, builds confidence, self-esteem, and increases their language skills.
Teaching is a profession that encompasses the passion and desire to motivate and encourage children to develop a lifelong love for learning. Working with children has many challenges, but also provides amazing rewards. Children are inspirational in their desire to learn from those around them and themselves. As a program we want to help your child on their journey to develop essential life skills and knowledge to become a valued and worthwhile member of the community.
Thank you for the opportunity to teach your children,
Socci Galvez
Director of Blossoms Bilingual Preschool
Multiple Intelligences
The theory of multiple intelligences was developed in 1983 by Dr. Howard Gardner, professor of education at Harvard University. It suggests that the traditional notion of intelligence, based on I.Q. testing, is far too limited. Instead, Dr. Gardner proposes eight different intelligences to account for a broader range of human potential in children and adults. These intelligences are:
• Linguistic intelligence (“word smart”)
• Logical-mathematical intelligence (“number/reasoning smart”)
• Spatial intelligence (“picture smart”)
• Bodily-Kinesthetic intelligence (“body smart”)
• Musical intelligence (“music smart”)
• Interpersonal intelligence (“people smart”)
• Intrapersonal intelligence (“self smart”)
• Naturalist intelligence (“nature smart”)
Conflict Resolution
We have this chart hanging on our wall at Blossoms, to help ensure that we are following in order, so we all are on the same path when we are helping children learn about the importance of conflict resolution in a healthy way. This helps parents to see how this enables us all to work together.
